You can SECRETLY open WhatsApp images without opening the chat

A HANDY trick allows iPhone users to preview an image sent via WhatsApp without actually opening the chat.

It means you can view a picture message without showing the sender that you've seen it, leaving no imminent pressure to reply.

How to secretly open a WhatsApp image message

Unfortunately, this trick is only avaliable for iPhone users at the moment.

You need to go on WhatsApp and exit all chats so you're back to the main chats window.

Then select the chat you wish to preview by pressing down and swiping to the left.

You should see a 'More' option pop up.

Click 'More' and then click 'Export Chat'.

You can attach media to the chat and export the whole thing.

Then click 'Save to Files'.

This means you can save all the images sent in the chat to an area on your device as well as all the chat messages.

All that's left to do is head to the section where you saved the chat and read away.

Similar tricks to try

Most people trying to avoid "read receipts" simply use the Airplane Mode method, which shuts off data so the sender's WhatsApp won't know you've read a text.

But that method isn't great, because as soon as you turn Airplane Mode off the blue ticks appear – meaning you have to stay offline.

You can also turn off read receipts entirely, but then you won't get to see them from other users, which is frustrating.

If you have a newer iPhone model you can take advantage of something called 3D Touch.

The screen has an extra layer of touch sensitivity in it, so by pressing hard on the display, you can bring up new options.

If you tap once on a WhatsApp chat, you'll be taken straight into the messages.

But if you press hard and hold on the WhatsApp chat, you'll get a full-screen preview of what's inside.

This lets you read around a dozen of the latest messages sent in this chat without triggering the WhatsApp blue ticks.

But be careful – if you press too hard, you'll be taken straight into the full chat window, and the blue ticks will appear for the sender.

Once you're done, simply let go and you'll be taken back to the main chat window.
