While an underclaimed benefit, Pension Credit can offer vital support to low income pensioners. It tops up a person’s income to a particular amount to support them with their living costs.

Singletons will get a weekly income of £182.60, while those who have a partner will receive a joint weekly income of £278.70.

Some may even get extra amounts if they have other responsibilities and costs.

The DWP states Pension Credit is worth £3,300 per year, so it could provide significant help.

Pension Credit, however, is thought of as a “gateway benefit” as it opens the door to a wide range of “freebies” and support.

The cost of living crisis is hitting Britons hard, and many will be tightening their belts – especially those who are already grappling with a limited income.

But two forms of help involve a reduction in these bills: bringing down council tax and placing a cap on water.

These are unavoidable charges millions of Britons have to pay, and could be a source of worry for low income pensioners.

Council tax may be reduced by up to 100 percent, depending on circumstances which could provide significant help.

The Warm Home Discount could take £140 off a person’s winter electricity bill.

The money is not paid to the Pension Credit recipient and instead serves as a one-off discount on electricity bills between October and March

Individuals will get £25 for each seven day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31 in their area.

People will get a payment if the average temperature in their area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

Pension Credit recipients who are over the age of 75 will be entitled to a free TV licence.

A free TV licence is considered to be one of the most important entitlements for Pension Credit recipients.

Otherwise it would be worth £159 per year.
