Two Britons have had a lucky start to the New Year securing the Premium Bonds £1million top prize. Many more will have won prizes between £25 and £100,000 and could be sitting on a windfall they hadn’t been expecting.
Premium Bonds from the Government backed savings provider NS&I have been popular with Britons since they were first launched in the 1950s.
These savings accounts allow people to withdraw and deposit cash whenever they need to and are financially secure because they are backed by the Government.
In addition, every month hundreds of thousands of people eagerly await the prize draw to see if they have been made a millionaire or won a top prize.
The first winning bond numbers of 2022 have been announced, and Britons are being urged to check their bond numbers.
The first Premium Bonds millionaire for 2022 came from Hertfordshire and the winning Bond number was 258VJ570205.
The jackpot winner holds £50,000 in Premium Bonds and purchased the winning Bond in October 2015.
The second millionaire for 2022 is from Lancashire with the winning bond 127VF630970.
Originally purchased in 2007, the winner holds £30,000 in Premium Bonds and is the second jackpot winner from the county in as many months.

For those who haven’t been lucky enough to scoop the top prize, millions of other cash prizes are waiting to be claimed.
NS&I said 3.3 million other prizes will be paid out this month worth between £25 and £100,000.
Britons can check to see if they have won in January’s prize draw online.
Even if they haven’t won anything in the latest draw, they could have missed a previous win.
A huge £74million is still unclaimed in NS&I Premium Bonds prizes since the savings accounts were first introduced.
As well as checking online, people can use the official NS&I Premium Bonds prize checker app or Alexa-enabled device.
Customers will need their Premium Bonds holder’s number and their NS&I number or holder’s number to check via the prize checker app.
In the January 2022 prize draw, a total of 3,352,872 prizes worth £96,395,075 will be paid out.

Jill Waters, NS&I retail director, said: “A massive congratulations to our Premium Bonds jackpot winners in Hertfordshire and Lancashire.
“It’s a brilliant start to the New Year and we wish them all the best for 2022 and beyond.”
Customers can choose to have their prizes paid directly to their bank account or have their wins automatically reinvested into more Premium Bonds.
By having them paid directly it reduces the number of prizes that go unclaimed, almost nine in ten prizes are now paid using these options which are more secure than receiving them via cheque.
