During a previous episode of Channel 4’s Love It or List It, the property expert suggested a family of five embarked on a refurbishment project to make better use of their space. Kirstie Allsopp will be joined by Phil Spencer on a new episode tonight where they will offer a couple advice on their bungalow in Staines-upon-Thames, in Surrey.
The show sees the property experts compete against each other as they attempt to convince homeowners to either embark on a renovation project or sell.
During a previous episode, the property experts looked back at renovations which had required a great deal of work.
In Huddersfield, Yorkshire, a family of five desperately required additional space in their home, with the design being described as “higgledy-piggledy”.
The bedrooms and bathrooms had been spread across several floors of a five-storey house, making the layout and sleeping arrangements “complicated.”

Tasked with the job of proposing a plan, Kirstie suggested setting a budget of £40,000, which was half of the family’s overall renovation budget, to provide the “perfect family home”.
“Most people live in a tiny percentage of their houses and if you make some gentle alterations, you’ll much better utilise this space,” said Kirstie.
The property expert aimed to provide both individual and family space in the new design to provide “far better use” of the whole home.
“I think I can really alter it so it works for you and you don’t have to work,” she said.

Kirstie proposed creating a ground floor open plan, with the kitchen “at its heart”, along with a new terrace.
By reinstating a wall on the next floor, she suggested created an “intimate” sitting room and entrance wall.
In the basement, she proposed creating a new bathroom and guestroom.
“It really is trying to fit everyone in so everyone has their own space,” she said.

On the second floor, she planned on creating a new bedroom to enable all children to sleep on the same level.
In Woodford, East London, Kirstie set out plans for a renovation of a three-bed semi-detached home which belonged to a family of five.
Before proposing a plan, Kirstie said: “I look at it and think how on earth can that house be made big enough to fit a family of five.”
Kirstie said “straight away” she could see there were “problems with the layout.”
With just one bathroom to accommodate the family of five, Kirsty’s proposals included plans to turn the old kitchen into a bathroom and study.
She also proposed building an extension with a new kitchen, lounge and diner.
Kirstie added: “I’m hoping this clever, yet simple, use of space will exceed their expectations.”
Love It or List It airs tonight on Channel 4.
