Dryer sheets keep your laundry smelling fresh, but they have many uses outside of your laundry process. Dryer sheets are coated with stearic acid, which melts when heated, which helps to reduce static. Express.co.uk has compiled a list of six surprising cleaning hacks which can make your life easier.

How to clean using dryer sheets

Removing burnt-off foods

You can clean stubborn burnt bits on your pots, pans and stovetops using dryer sheets.

To remove stuck-on food from pots and pans, simply place a non-woven polyester dryer sheet into the offending pan and fill the pan with hot water.

Allow the pan to soak for several hours, ideally overnight, and the dryer sheet should help soften the food.

The next morning you should be able to simply wipe away the food.

This method will protect the finish on your pots and pans while effectively removing all traces of remaining food.

Clean a hairbrush

Dryer sheets can be effectively used to keep hairbrushes clean and tidy.

These sheets can help free hair brushes of tangled hair and hair product residue.

To use dryer sheets, you should remove any loose hair or dirt from the brush first.

Next, fill a bowl with warm water and submerge two new dryer sheets.

Submerge your brush in this water mixture and allow the brushes to soak for two or three hours before removing the brush and rinse thoroughly.

Finally, pat your hairbrush dry with a towel or cloth before allowing them to air dry.

Wipe electronic screens

Electronic items are unsurprisingly electrically charged which means they are magnets for dust.

You can use a dryer sheet to effectively wipe them clean as dryer sheets help to counteract static.

A dryer sheet will effectively lead to less dust and means they will be less attracted to electronics in the future.

Deodorise your shoes

Shoes can begin to smell over time, but you can prevent this process by using a dryer sheet.

Sports shoes in particular can get particularly dirty and odorous.

If you add dryer sheets to your shoes and boots you can deodorise them without washing them.

Dusting high dust areas

Dryer sheets absorb static and therefore it makes them an ideal cleaning tool for collecting dust.

Therefore dryer sheets can be most effective when you clean blinds, baseboards and ceiling fans.

Simply wipe these areas down with new dryer sheets to prevent dust from settling on these areas.

You can dampen the dryer sheet to help the dust stick even more.

Remove deodorant stains

White deodorant marks can be very frustrating.

However, if you act quickly you can remove these surface stains and remedy this issue.

Lightly wipe down these marks with a dryer sheet and you can dust them away.

Try to remove rubbing because this can cause wrinkles and stretch the material of the fabric you are working with.
